The World Premiere of Meira’s YES! for solo clarinet, piano and drum set will be performed by clarinetist Jaelynn Twitchell, pianist Julie Miller and percussionist Aidan Sherwood on Sunday, November 12 @ 3:45 PM at the Sarah Snell Theater of the Crane School of Music on the campus of State University of New York at Potsdam.
This will be presented as part of Twitchell’s hour recital for completion of the school’s Performance Certificate.
The clarinet and orchestra version of the piece was recorded by soloist Richard Stoltzman with the Warsaw Philharmonic in 2007 for the MMC label. He said about the work, “YES! is an exciting, rhythmically energizing piece with lots of jazz accents and a fun, driving beat.”
Reviewer William Zagorski wrote of the recording in Fanfare magazine, “Employing an impressive percussion battery (YES!) freely fuses jazz and rock style in a bracingly raucous way…”
