S. Carolina’s Long Bay Symphony to Perform Meira’s Ahavah (Love)

The Long Bay Symphony, Charles Evans Jones, conductor, will present Meira’s Ahavah (Love), written in 1994 for chorus and orchestra on January 29, 2023 @ 4 PM at MBHS Music and Arts Center, 3302 Robert M Grissom Pkwy in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as part of their  Storytellers: Preserving Traditions concert

Featured performers will include mezzo-soprano Jennifer Luiken, the Carolina Master Chorale and the Coastal Carolina University Concert Choir.

The Symphony website says about the piece, “contemporary composer Meira Warshauer explores the spiritual Ahavah (Love) and the dialogue of humanity’s relationship with nature from the perspective of Jewish teachings.” Read Meira’s program notes and see her speak about her inspiration for Ahavah below.

Other composers on the program are Manuel de Falla, Stravinsky, Wagner and Jennifer Higdon.
