Meira’s Yiddish Fantasy will be presented by the Norwalk Symphony, Jonathan Yates, Music Director, on Saturday, November 16 @ 7 PM at Norwalk Concert Hall, in Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Ave. in Norwalk, CT. Event tickets and info here.
The orchestra will perform the piece as part of an all-string concert using six violins, one viola and one cello from Violins of Hope in the ensemble. These string instruments were owned and played by Jews before and during the Holocaust, and in some cases they were played in the concentration camps, hidden, or thrown from cattle cars. They have been meticulously restored by Israeli father-and-son violin makers, Amnon z”l and Avshalom Weinstein.
Yiddish Fantasy is an arrangement of several Yiddish songs and klezmer tunes which were popular among the Jews of Eastern Europe at the turn of the century.
Founded in 1939, the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra is a significant cultural organization showcasing its professional musicians and enhancing the quality of life in Norwalk and neighboring communities in Southwestern Connecticut.
