Meira’s Coquelicot (Poppies) will be given its World Premiere on Friday, August 27 at 12 noon by Duo Coquelicot (Carol Wincenc, flute and Velléda Miragias, cello) as part of their concert for Boston Public Library’s Courtyard Series. Attend in person or watch the livestream at the link above.
The piece was commissioned by the Boston Public Library with support from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. More event info here.
Coquelicot is in three movements:
Coquelicot Reverie–Dreaming Poppies
Course Pursuite–Catch me if you can!
Meira writes, “When I first met Duo Coquelicot…I was enchanted by their playful spirit. Even the name they chose for their duo, “coquelicot” (French for poppies), has a joyful lilt whose rhythmic pattern became the first movement, “Let’s Play.” As I composed, I pictured Carol and Velleda romping in a field of brilliant red poppies, letting their spirits run freely.” Read her complete program notes here.
