Meira Warshauer’s In Memoriam for solo cello will be performed on Sunday, September 25 at 4:00 PM by Kalim Campos at Main Street United Methodist Church, 1830 Main Street in Columbia, SC as part of the national Concert Across America to End Gun Violence.
Meira writes about the piece:
I wrote this music during the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001. I didn’t have a piece in mind, or consciously set out to write one. Later, the sketches seemed to belong together, and to fit the solo cello.
It was my way of holding each other in our loss. It reflected my sadness, our collective sadness.
Now, as we mourn the victims of gun violence, our collective sadness grows. And our determination also grows.
We come together to comfort and to seek solutions to these self-inflicted wounds.
We come together to create a nation of laws and attitudes that will help prevent and protect us from harming each other.
We come together in humility, interdependence, prayer. We come together with love.
